Irish Elasmobranch Group
The Irish Elasmobranch Group (IEG) was established in 1997 as a non-profit organisation with the aim of promoting research, education and conservation of sharks, skates and rays in Irish waters. Membership is open to anyone, whether professional or recreational, with an interest in Irish elasmobranchs. Anglers are particularly welcome as their knowledge of sharks, skates and rays is of specific importance.
The aims of the group are to:
• advance the conservation of elasmobranchs in Irish and international waters.
• promote and disseminate elasmobranch research in Ireland.
• promote the sustainable management of exploited elasmobranch stocks.
• provide a public resource of educational material on elasmobranchs.
• prevent the duplication of research effort through improved communication between researchers in Ireland and abroad.
The IEG is currently undergoing rejuvenation in order to become more active and further the conservation of Elasmobranchs in Ireland. For updates on our progress and to find out more about the IEG visit our new website
