The European Elasmobranch Association (EEA) was established in 1996 as a non-profit share-holding organisation for co-ordinating the activities of all national European organisations dedicated to the study, management or conservation of chondrichthyans (sharks, skates, rays and chimarea).
 
The EEA is an association of organisations, not individuals. Members of the public support the EEA by joining one (or more) of its European member organisations.  
A New Plan of Action for Sharks
 EU COPA Sharks
In December 2007 the European Commission  released a public consultation document for a EU COPA Sharks in Europe where  stakeholders were able to contribute their thoughts to the process of creating an Action Plan.
The Consultation ended on 15th February 2008, public meetings and debates will now take place to determine the final outcome of the plan.
Lenfest Ocean Programme
Sharks declines in the Med Sea
Francesco Ferretti and his co-authors have reconstructed population trends of large sharks over the last 200 years in the Med Sea, where some of the largest and earliest declines in shakrs have occured.
 

They found that all species studied decreased by more than 97% in number and catch over time. This is a summary of their findings and is availabel in English, French, Italian and German.

European Shark Week
11-19 October 2008
successful European Shark Week throughout Europe last year heralds the return of it this October; brought to you by the Shark Trust and supported by EEA members.
